NEWS Last update: May 7/10
Happy New Years surf fiends, and Happy Birthday to us. USK turns 15 years old in 2010, and is gonna celebrate with a load of cool stuff this year. First up is our Birthday Bash at the Seahorse Tavern (Halifax, NS) on Sat, Feb 20. GuitarFest VI is gonna happen again in May, and there will be many shows near and far. We're just putting the finishing touches on a 23 track "greatest hits" album (featuring some unreleased gems), and a live ep. Expect those to come out sooner, than later on Reverb Ranch. It's hard to believe it's been 15 years of surf. Time flies by from our first gig at King's University's Wardroom with Mr Mumps, Brain, and Spunky to playing bigger venues here and abroad (with Crash Flagg, Inky & then Spunky again), 10+ releases, umpteen appearances on compilations from around the world, soundtracks, tv & radio appearances, awards & nominations, and many, many good friends made along the way. Who knew that an instrumental surf trio from Nova Scotia would have so much fun, and achieve a lot of things that other bands only dream of? Plus, it is not gonna stop anytime soon. 2010...Here we go!!! The Rev Hank / Wadadli Riders show in Livorno Italy this summer was a blast. The 3 hit the stage at the Surfer Joe Summer Fest without any rehearsal, and just tore it up (heck, they hadn't even met until the day of the show). Among other tunes, the trio performed USK's "Giant Cow", "Cafe Americano" & "Espresso Twist". USK were featured performers for the Frame X Frame exhibit at Argyle Fine Art (part of the Atlantic Film Festival). Plans are underway for a couple of Holiday shows so stay tuned! USK record 2 tracks with Rob Corrigan at SoundMarket Studios, Halifax. The tunes are "Do the Earl" & "Twist & Twang", and feature Spunky on the kit. Stay tuned for more information on release. Rev Hank will be playing the Surfer Joe Summer Fest on Sat July 25 in Livorno Italy with the Wadadli Riders backing him up. This 3 day, international surf festival also features such acts as Pollo del Mar, the Madeira, Los twang Marvels, the Kilaueas, and more. The Great Scots: Nova Scotia bred/ international recording artists, the Great Scots, landed in California in 1965. Their Garage meets British Invasion sound has stood the test of time. Now after 40 years, the Great Scots are reuniting with the original line up to knock your socks off! The only that question remains...will they wear their signature kilts? http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/Pop_Encyclopedia/G/Great_Scots.html 9th Wave: Connecticut's premiere Hot Rod Surf combo is making its debut Canadian appearance at Guitar-Fest V. Led by the incendiary guitar playing of Mike "Staccato" Rosado, the quartet promise to inflict the fury of pounding surf on our East Coast. Urban Surf Kings: Halifax's instro-MeNTAL! trio will be performing a low down set of Baritone guitar led twist & twang. They have just put out their 10 recording, the 4 song/ 7inch Ski School (Reverb Ranch RR-001). Brad Conrad: Dartmouth's busiest 6 string guitar-man pays tribute to the Stray Cats with a set of Rockabilly that's not to be missed. Fabulous Venturamas: This quartet of Ventures fanatics promise to recreate their mentors' debut lp, Walk, Don't Run, note for note, track for track. They have been described as a must see for all guitar nuts. Plus special guests, give-aways, and more! USK sign with Reverb Ranch! USK have signed to new surf & twang label Reverb Ranch.
